The Food Safety and Inspection Service (FSIS) issued Notice 57-15, FSIS Sampling of Raw Ground Beef Products for Nutrient Content. This notice re-issues instructions issued in Notice 43-14. This notice provides the Office of Field Operations (OFO) inspection program personnel (IPP) and the Office of Investigation, Enforcement and Audit (OIEA) investigators instructions to follow when FSIS continues ongoing surveillance sampling for nutrient content of raw ground beef samples collected for Shiga toxin-producing E. coli (STEC) and Salmonella. FSIS intends to continue the nutrient content sampling for another year and plans to increase the number of samples tested as part of the program. IPP are to follow the instructions in FSIS Directive 10,010.1 for collecting the samples under routine testing of raw ground beef in federal establishments (MT43).
