(North American Meat Institute)

The Food Safety and Inspection Service (FSIS) announced its intent to revise the Food Standards and Labeling Policy Book, which provides guidance to manufacturers to develop food product labels that are truthful and accurate. FSIS has stopped adding policy guidance to the book, but will continue to make amendments as necessary to ensure consistency with its policies and regulations. The revised policy book will provide updated information that establishments can use when creating new labels and modifying existing labels for meat and poultry products. Public comments on the book are invited through October 19, 2015. Comments may be submitted online or by mail to Docket Clerk, U.S. Department of Agriculture, Food Safety and Inspection Service, Patriots Plaza 3, 1400 Independence Avenue SW., Mailstop 3782, Room 8-163B, Washington, DC 20250-3700.
