(North American Meat Institute)

The Farm Foundation announced a series of 12 regional workshops hosted throughout the United States that will address the stewardship of medically-important antimicrobial drugs in food-producing animals. These one-day workshops will include presentations by producer leaders, local veterinarians and representatives from the regional feed industry, as well as comments from officials representing FDA and USDA's Animal and Plant Health Inspection Service. Attendees will gain a comprehensive understanding of two Guidance for Industry (GFIs) documents issued by FDA regarding the use of medically-important antimicrobial drugs in food animals and FDA's revised Veterinary Feed Directive (VFD) rule. Comments gathered at the workshops will be compiled in a report assessing the economic and physical challenges facing producers as they implement the GFIs and revised VFD. The report will be presented during a national summit in late fall 2015. The North American Meat Institute has provided financial support to assist in these education efforts. Details on the locations of the workshops are available here .
