The latest Trade and Market Statistics Report with data through May 2015 is now available. Total beef export volume is down compared to the same period in 2014, while total beef export value is up over 2014 figures. Pork export values and volumes are both below 2014 totals. The data reveal that beef exports to South Korea remained strong, increasing four percent in volume and nine percent in value compared to the same period in 2014. Pork exports to South Korea also showed significant growth from January to May, increasing 38 percent in volume and 37 percent in value, despite the overall decline in pork export numbers. Meanwhile, pork exports to mainstay destinations Japan and Mexico slipped in May. Exports to Japan were down nine percent in volume and 18 percent in value, while May exports to Mexico were the lowest in 19 months, falling six percent in volume and by nearly one-third in value. From January through May, however, Mexico remained five percent ahead of last year's pace in volume, reflecting the decline in pork prices from 2014 record levels.
