Meat Institute Members Convene in Carlsbad for Management Conference

Meat Institute members last week gathered at the Meat Industry Management Conference at the Park Hyatt Aviara in Carlsbad, California for a host of education programs and committee meetings, as well as for a chance to connect with industry colleagues old and new during numerous networking and social events.

Chef Mike Erickson opened the conference by sharing his experience educating high school students on beef production and the creation of his documentary "True Beef." He was followed by an update on the new North American Meat Institute that included an overview of the organization's extensive programs, services and experience.

The conference also included presentations from Deputy Under Secretary for Food Safety and Food Safety and Inspection Service (FSIS) Administrator Al Almanza, who provided an FSIS regulatory update, and John Nalivka, president of Sterling Marketing, Inc., who delivered an economic update on the meat industry. Conference presentations will be posted on the Management Conference Page at MeatInstitute.org by Wednesday.

Meanwhile, Independent Meat Co. won the "Hold the Mustard" award at the popular Sausage Fest competition, which showcased various sausage and ready-to-eat products from Meat Institute member companies. Many committees also held meetings at the conference and the NAMI Board of Directors also gathered for a review of key issues and discussion on the state of the organization.
