Meat Institute Committees to Convene in Carlsbad

Numerous Meat Institute committees will host meetings during the Meat Industry Management Conference , scheduled from April 15-18, 2015, in Carlsbad, California. The committee meetings enable members to collectively discuss important issues related to their respective topic areas, and to provide recommendations to the Meat Institute's Board of Directors. Prior committee registration is not required and all interested members are encouraged to participate in the upcoming meetings.

The Inspection Advisory Committee meeting will include Food Safety and Inspection Service and regulatory issues updates, while the International Affairs Committee will meet to discuss the status of various trade negotiations, border projects and country-specific issues. The Intellectual Properties Committee meeting will cover ways to develop, promote and protect current NAMI products, such as The Meat Buyer's Guide, and will detail opportunities for new product development. Meanwhile, the Labor and Employment Committee will highlight relevant issues related to the National Labor Relations Board, among other topics.

The Public Affairs and Marketing/Emerging Trends Committee will meet to review the Meat Institute's communications priorities and strategy in the year ahead, particularly related to dietary guidelines outreach and grassroots engagement, among other objectives. The Supplier Committee Meeting will feature discussions on the structure and goals of the committee, value of supplier membership, and issues affecting suppliers and their customers. The Processed Meats Committee will convene to discuss the status of specific action items and to determine the future role of the committee, whereas the Fresh Meat Committee will deliberate on merging with the Inspection Advisory Committee. The Member Services/Membership Committee will review membership requirements and benefits, updated marketing materials and recruitment efforts.

Conference registration remains open and rates are now $595 per person or $495 per person when three or more individuals from the same member company register. The conference will feature education sessions covering an array of topics, including food safety, government regulations, economics, communications and workforce issues.
