FSIS Releases First Year Update on Salmonella Action Plan

USDA's Food Safety and Inspection Service (FSIS) published a report outlining the accomplishments of the Salmonella Action Plan (SAP) during its first year of implementation. The report lists accomplishments in modernizing the poultry slaughter inspection system, initiating a sampling program to estimate the national prevalence of Salmonella and providing Salmonella-related food safety education, among numerous others. FSIS also previews the actions it intends to take in the coming year to further reduce Salmonella illnesses and improve public health.
