FDA has established a collaborative partnership with USDA's National Institute of Food and Agriculture (NIFA) to administer and manage the National Food Safety Training, Education, Extension, Outreach and Technical Assistance Program. The partnership will provide grant funding to small farm owners and food processors to receive training, education and technical assistance consistent with standards being established under the Food Safety Modernization Act (FSMA). Priority will be given to those submitting grant applications to train owners and operators of small and medium-size farms, small food processors, new and socially disadvantaged farmers, tribes, institutions of higher learning and state cooperative extension programs, among others. FDA is first issuing a request for applications for the establishment of a National Coordination Center for Food Safety, Training, Education, Extension, Outreach and Technical Assistance.
