The Obama Administration last week announced numerous regulations aimed at normalizing relations with Cuba, as part of the president's broader effort to restore diplomatic relations with the nation. Under the new regulations, Americans can now travel to Cuba without applying for special licenses to visit family, conduct business, attend athletic competitions, partake in government meetings and complete humanitarian projects, among numerous other allowances, with the exception of travel for tourism purposes. U.S. companies can now export building materials, agricultural equipment and supplies for Cuban private-sector entrepreneurs. U.S. airlines are also now permitted to fly to Cuba without obtaining a license, and banking activity, including the use of U.S. credit and debit cards, will now be allowed.
