National Academy of Science Publishes Animal Science Report

The National Academy of Science published a report entitled, "Critical Role of Animal Science Research in Food Security and Sustainability." The report aims to demonstrate the need for increased research in the field of animal science as it relates to food security, and reinforces the need for additional funding for animal agriculture. The report recommends revitalizing the animal agriculture research infrastructure through a series of strategic partnerships from government, non-profit and private sector stakeholders, and calls for competitive grants that are integrated and multidisciplinary to broaden the role of social science in animal science research. The report also recommends using a holistic approach to ensure animal productivity and sustainability to meet global demand for protein and to achieve food security, among numerous other recommendations.
