AMIF Releases Year in Review

The American Meat Institute Foundation (AMIF) released its annual Year in Review report for 2014. Over the past 12 months, the Foundation funded five new research projects, while completing three research studies focused on Salmonella in turkey, multi-drug resistant pathogens and Listeria monocytogenes in retail deli environments. AMIF also published a revised version of its Sanitary Equipment Design Principles , which have been a leading factor in food safety advances in meat and poultry plants. In addition, AMIF strengthened its efforts to highlight the dietary importance of meat and poultry, and developed a dietitian-authored brochure entitled, "Meat: A Key Player on Your Nutrition Team," to underscore meat's nutritional value.

The Foundation in 2014 marked the 15th year since the launch of its Food Safety Initiative, which aims to improve the safety of meat and poultry products, and has resulted in significant declines in foodborne illness outbreaks associated with these products. The publication also includes updates on the Foundation's ongoing research projects; a summary of its 2014 education programs, trainings and other activities; and an upcoming calendar of 2015 events.

The newly merged North American Meat Institute Foundation (NAMIF) will continue to emphasize education programming, consumer food safety education and research funding to improve the safety of the meat and poultry supply.
