NAMI's predecessor organizations, the American Meat Institute and the North American Meat Association, joined 164 organizations in signing a multi-association letter to President Obama urging him to intervene in the ongoing West Coast port labor negotiations between the International Longshore and Warehouse Union (ILWU) and the Pacific Maritime Association (PMA). The letter requests that the administration appoint a mediator from the Federal Mediation and Conciliation Service to facilitate a resolution to the seven-month labor dispute between the ILWU and PMA. The letter cites the negative economic impact of prolonged negotiations on jobs, consumers, exporters, importers, transportation providers, manufacturers and retailers.
