The Pacific Maritime Association (PMA) issued a statement underscoring the lack of progress made in contract negotiations with the International Longshore and Warehouse Union (ILWU) to resolve an ongoing labor dispute that covers more than 20,000 longshore workers at 29 west coast ports.

"Statements and rumors that our negotiations are 'close' to a final contract are not true," the PMA statement said. "Business is being lost, and we are concerned that the damage is permanent and shippers will be fearful to put their trust in the west coast ports going forward."

Meanwhile, AMI is joining a multi-association letter once again urging President Obama to intervene in the dispute. The American Association of Port Authorities (AAPA) also sent a letter to President Obama requesting the administration assign federal mediators to facilitate a resolution between the PMA and ILWU.
