President Obama announced a series of executive actions to restore diplomatic relations with Cuba, signaling his support for easing the trade embargo, which requires congressional approval. In 2013, the U.S. exported approximately $350 million of agricultural products to Cuba, with frozen chicken, corn, soybeans and soybean meal constituting the majority of the exported product. The U.S. has previously exported some red meat to Cuba, consisting mostly of pork and beef items, but economic barriers remain, including Cuba's uncertain business climate and weak purchasing power, which could impact short-term meat demand.
