FSIS Notice Addresses Questions About Salmonella Sampling and Reporting

The FSIS (Food Safety and Inspection Service) has issued Notice 18-08: Questions and Answers Related to Raw Meat and Poultry Product Performance Standards for Salmonella Sampling and Reporting.

The purpose of the notice is to respond to questions about the responsibilities of inspection program personnel and District Offices regarding the following:  reporting of Salmonella performance standard (PR/HACCP) sampling results, issuance on an “End of Set” letter, and scheduling Salmonella performance standard (PR/HACCP) sampling after a failed sample set.  The notice also clarifies that establishments may receive sample set results via electronic mail if they provide an electronic address to the inspector.
