FDA announced that Dr. Susan Mayne will lead the Center for Food Safety and Applied Nutrition (CFSAN) as director, effective January 2015. Dr. Mayne will replace Michael Landa, who has led CFSAN since 2010. Dr. Mayne, an internationally recognized public health leader and scientist, currently serves as the C.-E.A. Winslow Professor of Epidemiology and Chair of the Department of Chronic Disease Epidemiology at Yale School of Public Health. She is also the associate director of the Yale Cancer Center.
Dr. Mayne recently completed two consecutive terms on the Food and Nutrition Board of the National Academy of Sciences, as well as a five-year term serving on the Board of Scientific Counselors for the U.S. National Cancer Institute. As the author or coauthor of more than 200 scientific publications, Dr. Mayne has conducted extensive research into the complex role of food, nutrition, obesity and other health behaviors as determinants of chronic disease risk.
In her new role, Dr. Mayne will provide leadership on nutrition, food safety and other issues, while also working with Food and Drug Administration's Foods and Veterinary Medicine Program to engage consumers, industry and the general public, in an effort to address topics such as chronic disease and obesity.share on facebook share on twitter
