AMI and USHSLA Join Continued Push for White House Intervention in West Coast Port DisputeMonday, November 17, 2014
(American Meat Institute)
As the labor dispute at west coast ports drags into its fifth month, AMI and the U.S. Hide Skin and Leather Association (USHSLA) joined a coalition of industry groups in a meeting at the White House to communicate their disappointment to the administration regarding the lack of progress in the negotiations. This meeting follows a number of letters the coalition has sent to various officials, including the President, urging them to bring federal mediators into the negotiations.
AMI is also working with members to put together a library of anecdotes describing the impact these labor issues are having on the US economy. There is a White House petition being circulated requesting the President take more action. This is being coordinated by the American Apparel and Footwear Association.
