Congestion Surcharges Announced at West Coast Ports

Several transportation carriers announced Port Congestion Surcharges ranging from $800 to $1600 per container for all cargo arriving at U.S. west coast ports effective today, November 17. The carriers cited financial challenges posed by the ongoing west coast port labor dispute as the principal reason for the surcharges. Tariffs filed earlier this year allow carriers to levy surcharges on both imports and exports at all North American ports.
