New OSHA Injury and Illness Reporting Requirements to Take Effect in January

A new Occupational Safety and Health Administration (OSHA) rule modifying reporting requirements for severe injuries/illnesses and fatalities will go into effect on January 1, 2015. The new rule contains two key changes. First, incidents resulting in hospitalization of one or more employees must be reported directly to OSHA. Formerly, notice was required only when three or more employees were hospitalized. Second, any amputation or loss of an eye must also be reported to OSHA as a hospitalization.  OSHA also plans to post some of the reports on its public website. An excellent, detailed explanation of the revisions has been provided by Constangy, Brooks and Smith law firm.
