Nearly 500 attendees joined the AMI Foundation (AMIF) and North American Meat Association (NAMA) for a variety of education events over the last two weeks covering several key industry topics. The education included the annual AMIF Animal Care and Handling Conference in Kansas City which drew 260 attendees to sessions discussing animal welfare best practices for livestock and poultry in large and small plants.

The Advanced Listeria monocytogenes Intervention and Control Workshop followed last week with 67 registrants. The workshop featured a four hour hands-on demonstration at the Weber, Inc. facility in Kansas City where attendees were able to apply the sanitary equipment design principles on Weber and Multivac equipment and watch a steam-tenting demonstration.

AMIF was also a sponsor of NAMA's Pathogen Control and Regulatory Compliance in Beef Processing Conference in Chicago. The two-day event drew 150 attendees and included expert speakers from government, industry, and academia to share the latest information on issues related to beef safety. Throughout the event, much discussion focused on proper lotting and correctly responding to test results, as well as the impact of high event days, and recall prevention.
