FNBA Urges Ambition Over Political Expediency in TPP NegotiationsTuesday, October 21, 2014

The Five Nations Beef Alliance (FNBA) issued a statement urging Trans-Pacific Partnership (TPP) leaders and negotiators not to sacrifice their import reform ambition for political expediency. The statement, which followed the October 10 FNBA meeting in Austin, Texas, reaffirmed the alliance's commitment to securing a comprehensive TPP agreement that liberalizes trade and delivers transparent, non-discriminatory beef market access. The statement also called for clear mechanisms to deal with non-tariff barriers to trade, and reinforced the need to address border protection measures.
"FNBA's overarching priority is that TPP members do not compromise on the high level of ambition envisaged by TPP Leaders in 2011," the statement said.
The alliance is made up of beef producers from Australia, Canada, Mexico, New Zealand and the United States, representing one-third of global beef production and approximately half of global beef exports.share on facebook share on twitter
