(American Meat Institute)

AMI joined six other groups in the industrial refrigeration industry in comments to the Department of Homeland Security on its proposed rule for the Chemical Facilities Anti-Terrorism Standards (CFATS) program and regulation of ammonia. The comments suggest that the proposed rule align with other regulatory programs in place for management of ammonia in a closed loop system as employed by meat plants. The comments also recommend that anhydrous ammonia used for closed-circuit refrigeration systems be deleted the DHS Chemicals of Interest list as it has not been shown to bea terrorist target.
