The 2014 update of USDA's National Nutrient Database for Standard Reference has been released. The database, which contains data for more than 8,600 food items, is compiled by scientists at USDA's Agricultural Research Service (ARS). New food-nutrient profiles are added annually, and existing nutrient profiles are updated using data generated by ARS through its National Food and Nutrient Analysis Program, as well as through collaborations with the food industry and with others. The site has been reorganized to allow users to more easily select and view food-nutrient profiles from individual food groups. A new tool also enables consumers to search the amount of a specific nutrient present within any of the database's food items. To learn more about this year's updates, click here.
