AMI Requests Extension of Comment Period for Salmonella NoticeWednesday, February 27, 2008

AMI submitted a letter to the Food Safety and Inspection Service (FSIS) requesting a 60 day extension of the comment period regarding a January 28, 2008, Federal Register notice, “Salmonella Verification Sampling Program: Response to Comments and New Agency Policies.” In the notice the agency indicates that it intends to post the names of establishments that do not satisfy the Category I criteria set by FSIS. Those postings would be done first for broiler establishments and thereafter for other species and products. AMI’s letter also asks that all of the other relevant effective dates be extend to allow comments to be submitted and carefully considered by the agency.
