FSIS Announces Fee for Electronic Export Certificate Applications

Wednesday, May 8, 2019

(North American Meat Institute)

The Food Safety and Inspection Service (FSIS) announced that, effective June 1, 2019, it will assess a fee to exporters that apply for export certificates electronically through the export component of the agency's Public Health Information System (PHIS). The electronic export application and certification process provides service options to U.S. exporters, allowing them to electronically submit, track, and manage their export applications. To cover this service's costs, which include technical support costs, export library maintenance costs, on-going operations and maintenance costs and eAuthentication costs, the final rule established a formula-based fee for electronic export applications. For more information on the rule and an explanation of the costs for the PHIS export component, read the background here.
